Quiet Beaches In Prachuap Thailand
Prachuap Khiri Khan province, commonly known as Prachuap, is located about 200 km south of Bangkok.
Prachuap offers a 224 km stretch of coastline, which is the second longest of all the provinces in Thailand, after Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Hua Hin is the most popular beach destination in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
In this post, I will introduce you to four quiet beaches. All of them lie south of Hua Hin and are unique in their own ways...
Thung Mamao Beach - taken in front of the X2 Kui Buri Resort
This is one of the serene untouched beaches in Prachuap. The white sandy beach is in a small fishing village called Thung Mamao, near the X2 Kui Buri Boutique Resort.
As the beach is in a secluded location there are not many facilities around, but it's a great place for a picnic. Or how about treating yourself to a delicious meal at the beach front restaurant in the X2 Resort?
How to get there: Travel southbound on Petchkasem Road, which is the national road connecting Bangkok to the south of Thailand. Soon after you have passed the 310 km white concrete marker, on the left side of the road, there will be a Buddhist temple named Wat Thung Mamao on your left. At the end of the temple grounds, there is a road to the left with a sign to the X2 Kui Buri Resort.
Drive along for 2 km, cross the railway and follow the road for another 600 meters. Then, turn left on to Thung Mamao Chaitalay Road and continue for 300 meters to get to the beach entrance. Once you're on the beach, you will see many local fishing boats to the north. If you're looking for privacy, it's better to go south. Please note, sometimes the sand level is low. Then, there are a lot of rocks on the beach.
Ao Manao Beach - taken at Wing 5 with Khao Lom Muak peak in the background
This historical beach has always been popular for its beauty and cleanliness. It's located at the southern end of Wing 5, which is adjacent to Klongwahn village. The wide, white sandy beach features shallow water that is suitable for families with young kids.
Food & drinks, beach chairs, bicycle rental, souvenir shops and showers are available at low prices. The weekdays are really quiet, especially when you walk toward the southern part of the beach.
Klongwahn Beach - taken at Baan Forty Resort, the most spacious beach front resort in Klongwahn
You can see Klongwahn hill in the background. Behind it lies Ao Manao beach. Klongwahn beach is not well-known because it doesn't have a beach front road and there is limited beach access. On the other hand, it helps preserve the peace and quiet.
Klongwahn beach is located 2 km south of Ao Manao. The beach starts from Klongwahn hill in the north and is 3-4 km long. Next to Klongwahn hill is Klongwahn canal where you can see how the fishermen live.
The beach south of Klongwahn pier has nice white sand. Further down south lies Waghor beach, which has deeper water. You can also visit Waghor Aquarium and King Mongkut Science Park. There are several resorts in Klongwahn, which offer reasonable room rates and friendly Thai hospitality.
Ban Krut Beach - with Thong Chai hill or Khao Thong Chai in the background
This wide sandy beach has become popular among Thais because of the famous hilltop temple nearby, called Wat Tang Sai.
There are many resorts and at least one guest house along the beach front road. If you're hungry, stop by one of the popular local restaurants such as Nuu Pochana and Keo Pochana. Ban Krut beach is really peaceful during week days.
